Fire on Grand Blvd

On Sunday morning our department was activated for a residential structure fire on Grand Boulevard. Upon arrival of Chief of Department Robert Macaluso, he quickly transmitted a working fire with an occupant within. After the Chief donned his scba, he was met at the front door by the homeowner. The Chief of the Department gave a size up of a 2 story private dwelling with fire showing on the first floor exposure 1,2 corner. Being our mutual aid company North Babylon Fire Company was on an alarm, their engine and our department apparatus was on scene within minutes making an aggressive attack on the fire. The fire appeared to be in the basement of the structure which lead to fire spread on all three floors. All crews did an exceptional job battling this working fire with the extreme heat temperatures. Units on scene pulled 3 1 3/4 handlines, used multiple ground ladders to gain access to all the floors to check for fire and victims. The fire was put under control within 45 minutes of the alarm. Thank you to our mutual aid departments for bringing this fire under control which consisted of North Babylon Fire Company, Wyandanch Fire Company, Dix Hills Fire Department, West Islip Fire Department, Bethpage Fire Department and Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance, including 75 Fire/EMS personnel. The scene was under the command of Chief of Department Robert Macaluso and was turned over to Town of Babylon Fire Marshal’s office and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.
